Phantom Hill Story
Continued...
Later in
the summer and fall, I saw the Phantoms ranging into the upper Sawtooth
Valley. Fortunately, the sheep band in Headwaters canyon had several alert
white guard dogs who chased the Phantoms off. Strong, healthy guard dogs
are essential to protecting sheep. The sheep band should always be bedded
close to the sheep wagon and herders at night. When the dogs bark, the
herders can awake and take action. One effective way to scare away wolves
is shooting off rounds into the air with a hunting rifle.
