YOU CAN HELP!
Up to 10 cords can be cut without charge north of Galena Summit. For more
information contact the SNRA office 727-5000, north of Ketchum, or the

is no charge.
Whitebark Pine Another pine that inhabits Idaho's higher mountains is the whitebark pine. These trees can be seen from Highway 75 on Galena Summit. In the past year, the mountain pine beetle has also attacked whitebark pines.
Learn more about whitebark pines at: www.whitebarkfound.org. This organization has published brochures. The Whitebark Pine Ecosystem Foundation is located in Missoula MT. The brochure tells of the relationship between whitebark pine cones and grizzly bears, squirrels and Clark’s Nutcrackers. The high fat nuts nourish the bears, and both squirrels and nutcrackers eat and help spread the seeds for more whitebarks to grow.
