Here is a view of the 2007 Monumental Fire:

Labor Day Sept 3, 2007 - The Monumental Fire put up a spectacular plume as it tore down Elkhorn Creek into the Middle Fork of the Salmon River canyon and beyond. The fire was part of the "Cascade Complex". Some Stanley area residents thought the blaze was "just over the ridge" when actually it was beyond Ruffneck Mountain north of the Cape Horn Guard Station. This view is from Highway 21 near Vader Overlook.
