A year after the Valley
Road Fire in the White Clouds, another blaze called the Trailhead Fire,
caused high anxiety for residents of the Sawtooth Valley and Stanley
Basin. It started on July 20th and was declared controlled and out by fire
fighters a few weeks later. But the blaze flared again on August 23rd
during high winds. Many campgrounds and roads were then closed and Stanley
area residents living in wooded areas like Iron Creek, Crooked Creek and
elsewhere were put on notice to be ready to evacuate. When the winds
subsided, fire crews snuffed out the Trailhead Fire completely.
