Deer Lakes Ridge
Saturday July 12th, 2003
Trek departs from Grand
Prize trailhead in Pole Creek, and climbs steadily to a view of Deer
Lakes and Castle Peak.
Also seen: the rugged "backside" of the Boulder
Mountains, rising out of the West Fork of the East Fork Salmon River
canyon.
This area is key in on-going efforts to designate Wilderness in
the Boulder-White Clouds. While we prefer to keep the West Fork a
migration route for elk, antelope and mule deer, motorized interests
have other goals. Over lunch we’ll discuss current Wilderness actions.
Leader Lynne Stone. 10 miles, 2,200 feet elevation gain, strenuous.
