Filtering Water at Rough Creek

This trek goes to a terrific White Cloud panorama.
At
the Lookout, we visited with three young men who were fixing the railings
and the shutters (yes, you can stay overnight in the rustic building).
They seemed surprised to see mature folks like us balancing on jutting
granite while soaking in world class views.
Thanks to Ron Greene for
capturing the kodak moments on his digital camera and sharing them with
the group.
The hike starts in boggy Rough Creek canyon which is unsuited
for motorcycles, as is the final, steep, granite slope to the lookout.
For
years, we've documented ORV damage here. In the 1980's, the Sawtooth
forest did recommend closing the trail to dirt bikes, but has not followed
through. We shall persevere; your letters and emails to the SNRA, Star
Rt., Ketchum, ID, 83340 or
email now urging non motorized designation would help our cause.
