Kathy Richmond, Clayton, led this outing to
acquaint people with mushrooms and discover a wooded, wildlife rich region
off the Salmon River in the White Cloud foothills.
We saw bear sign (overturned rocks and logs) and wolf tracks.
The day's find was a clump of rare
translucent mushrooms Psathyrella cernua.
At day's end, Kathy fried up a variety of fungi for a delicious treat.
Big and Little Casino Creek trails are close to Stanley and are open to
motorcycles. This area will be contentious when the time comes to
designate wilderness.
